About Plant Breeders Association of Nigeria (PBAN)
The Plant Breeders Association of Nigeria (PBAN) is an association of scientists and professionals involved in the field of plant breeding and related disciplines in Nigeria. PBAN was founded to promote the science and practice of plant breeding in Nigeria, and to represent the interests of plant breeders at both the national and international levels.
The association was established in response to the increasing need for improved crop varieties to meet the growing demands for food, fiber, and other plant products in Nigeria. PBAN provides a platform for its members to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and collaborate on research and development activities aimed at enhancing crop productivity, quality, and resilience.

To be a leading professional association in Africa that advances the science and practice of plant breeding for sustainable agricultural development.
Mission
To promote the science and practice of plant breeding through capacity building, advocacy, and partnership for improved livelihoods and food security in Nigeria.
Objectives
- To provide a platform for interaction and exchange of information among plant breeders and related professionals.
- To promote research and development in plant breeding and allied fields.
- To advocate for favorable policies and enabling environments for plant breeding activities in Nigeria.
- To build the capacity of members through training, workshops, and seminars.
- To collaborate with national and international organizations for the advancement of plant breeding in Nigeria.
Membership
Membership of PBAN is open to all scientists and professionals working in the field of plant breeding and related disciplines, including genetics, biotechnology, agronomy, crop protection, and seed technology. Students and early-career scientists are also encouraged to join the association.
